Burn Notice: The Complete Fifth Season
Christian Cintron READ TIME: 2 MIN.
"Burn Notice" has revolved around Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) searching for who "burned" him in the world of international intelligence. In the fifth season, he is reinstated with the CIA and things seem great. However, there are new villains with whom he must contend.
The fifth season figures some heavy hitting acting talent. Charisma Carpenter, Eric Roberts, Dean Cain and Kristanna Loken all make appearances this season. The season finale is also directed by "Die Hard 2" and "Cliffhanger" director Renny Harlin.
The DVD set includes a profile of all of the villains from the show, as well as some of this season's heavy hitters. These include Jere Burns as Anson a psychologist with a dark agenda, Jay Karnes as Tyler Brennen, a ruthless gunrunner with great dialogue, and Chris Vance as Mason Gilroy, a spy with a romantic interest in Michael.
The set includes a gag reel that includes some of the nuttier behind-the-scenes moments including people walking into shots and random lighting and sound issues.
You'll find commentary on the finale "Fail Safe" by Jeffrey Donovan and Bruce Campbell along with the show creators. It does offer some interesting tidbits about the making of the show but it can be slightly dry at times. The deleted scenes are also pretty boring considering how few there are in cable television series. There is also an extended version of "Army of One."
"Burn Notice" is a funny and irreverent, yet action-packed series that blends suspense and spy drama with a whimsical sense of humor. It really takes advantage of the USA brand to deliver a show that always feels like you're watching a great action movie.
