Colin Farrell to 'Rock' Luca Guadagnino's DCU Movie?

Colin Farrell – who was unrecognizable under layers of prostheses and makeup as "The Penguin" – might be putting on a whole new costume soon: That of DC's "Sgt. Rock."
The film seems likely to be the next project for "Challengers" and "Queer" director Luca Guadagnino. Justin Kuritzkes – the screenwriter for both "Challengers" and "Queer" – is reportedly writing the movie.
"Farrell takes over for Daniel Craig, who was originally kicking the tires to reteam with Guadagnino after they made 'Queer,'" Deadline reported.
While "Sgt. Rock" isn't the same sort of superhero as other characters from DC Comics, the square-jawed WWII hero does possess some superhuman traits.
"Rock's talent includes shooting down German fighter planes with a single submachine gun and tossing grenades with great accuracy," Deadline noted. "When he's without a gun, he's a great street fighter, and can survive gunshots."
"He's a calm guy with heart, but also has a 'combat antenna' able to detect an incoming enemy siege," the writeup added.
The film would be part of the overhaul of the DCU being overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who have been tasked with improving the fortunes of DC's sagging film franchise. One of the duo's first moves was to drop "Man of Steel" and "Batman v. Superman" star Henry Cavill and re-cast his role with David Corenswet, who portrays America's OG superhero in this summer's "Superman."
If Farrell does sign up for another tour of duty with DC, the role of the Greatest Generation super-soldier would have "to be balanced with his busy fall that includes the second season of Apple TV+'s 'Sugar' and Edward Berger's movie 'The Ballad of a Small Player,'" Deadline noted.
