Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is not playing around when it comes to her marriage and the protection of marriage rights for America's LGBTQ+ couples.

During the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Wednesday, Nessel stepped up to the podium amid a plethora of epic speeches at the event, including addresses by Barack and Michelle Obama and Oprah, and she stood out with a stark warning for the U.S. Supreme Court.

"You can pry this wedding ring from my cold, dead, gay hand," said Nessel. "And I'm retaining a lot of water," she added, "so good luck."

Nessel said her challenge was for the Supreme Court and any other Republicans who wish to roll back marriage equality. The sentiment was perfectly timed, as it followed a series of clips with Harris questioning then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Nessel pointed out that Harris had refused to defend California's gay marriage ban as the state's attorney general in 2011.

"She refused to argue that some families had fewer rights than other families," said Nessel. "It meant a lot. She was fighting for families like mine."

Nessel added about Harris, "We know when she takes an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution, she's actually read it."

Taking a swipe at Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump, Nessel said, "Kamala knows you go from the court house to the White House, not the other way around."

Nessel is known as a fiery leader and protector of LGBTQ+ rights in political circles, and watching her speak with such passion live is even better.
