Watch: Brothers Osborne Release New Song 'Younger Me,' Inspired by Singer's Coming Out

Brothers Osborne released their new single "Younger Me" this week, inspired by T.J. Osborne's experience coming to terms with his sexuality and eventual decision to come out as gay earlier this year.

In a message shared via Twitter, T.J. spoke of the catharsis writing and making the song brought him, and how he longed to tell his younger self of the acceptance he'd find later in life.

In an interview with CBS, he spoke further about the fear he felt prior to formally coming out in February, right up until the moment he shared his true self with the world.

"Once I finally, like, made the decision to do what I was going to do, I felt very sure [of that choice]," T.J. said. "But it's just really the fear of the unknown. ... Do we lose fans?"

T.J. also expressed his surprise at the overwhelmingly positive response to his announcement.

"I've had an incredible amount of support," T.J. said. "And there's been some people saying some off-color things to me. But it was a lot, a lot less than I expected."

This public announcement came around the same time John Osborne was suffering with a bout of extreme depression and anxiety, something he detailed in the same interview.

"I remember calling our manager at the time," John said. "I told him, I'm like, I mean, 'We can't go into the studio. I don't know what's wrong with me – I don't know why I'm not happy. I'm depressed. My anxiety is through the roof. I can't sleep. My ears are ringing.'"

Following a period of recovery and reflection, though, the Brothers both feel well and ready to make music again.
