PopUps: Sam Smith Returns to Social Media (Again) to Celebrate Pride

READ TIME: 1 MIN.

Sam Smith has (sorta) been on a social media hiatus ever since early 2016. But the crooner took to Twitter and Instagram this week to share photos of himself celebrating LGBT Pride in New York City.

After winning an Oscar for Best Original Song at the 88th Academy Awards, Smith got into some online drama with fellow Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black. Since then the "Latch" singer has stayed away from social media, only popping up a few times usually to pay respects after an international tragedy (like the Pulse massacre).

More recently, however, Smith has been a bit more active on social media. Earlier this month he updated fans waiting for a follow up to his 2014 debut album "In the Lonely Hour," letting them know he's working on new music.

On Monday, Smith shared photos and videos of him celebrating NYC Pride.

"Yesterday was a beautiful day," the British singer tweeted. "New York was alive & proud so much love to everyone who came out & marched & supported x."

With his tweet, he added a photo of him holding a rainbow flag.

Over on Instagram, Smith shared a video and another pic of him celebrating NYC Pride.

Smith was spotted elsewhere on Instagram celebrating Pride.

No other information regarding Smith's new music has been announced. He was last featured on Disclosure's track "Omen" in 2015. The same year he released "Writing's on the Wall" for the James Bond film "Spectre," which won him the Oscar.
