Best Orgasm Ever With Jenny Block's New Book, 'O Wow'

Winnie McCroy READ TIME: 5 MIN.

July 31 is National Orgasm Day, and EDGE contributor Jenny Block's new book "O Wow: Discovering Your Ultimate Orgasm" can help you reach your best-ever, ultimate orgasm.

What is an ultimate orgasm? As Block puts it, an ultimate orgasm is your personal best orgasm. It doesn't leave anything at the table. It doesn't want anything more. It lasts as long as it lasts. It takes as long as it takes. It's as messy and loud or quiet and tidy as you like. It has no room for shame or apology. It leaves you feeling like you just landed on another planet and you definitely need to take some time before you can drive a motor vehicle or operate heavy machinery.

"Reaching ultimate orgasm is important because it leaves women sexually satisfied in a way that nothing else can. It is her own orgasm best," said Block. "Each woman's ultimate orgasm is different. What it really means is an orgasm that leaves you wanting nothing more. Orgasm is so good for you. It relieves headaches and pain, alleviates stress, aids sleep, strengthens your connection with your partner. Any orgasm can do that, an ultimate orgasm just feels all the more amazing because you've eked out every ounce of pleasure your body is capable of at that moment."

An ultimate orgasm comes from questioning, exploring, experimenting, taking every chance, making every turn, and looking under every rock to figure out what feels best to you with no concern for how society or religion or anything else defines sex or sexuality or female orgasm. The ultimate orgasm belongs to you and only you and it is your responsibility to find it, to have it, and to keep it for as long as you want to live a fully actualized, fully orgasmic, fully sexually satisfying life.

Want to know the secret to having the ultimate orgasm? Knowing your body and being in the zone, or as Block says, "being in the moment and allowing yourself to have one. Ultimate orgasm requires being present in your body and letting go of everything else."

That's it. Lots of tips and tricks and ideas are in the book. But first and foremost, we have to empower ourselves to pleasure.

"An ultimate orgasm is your orgasm best," said Block. "For most women, that means the blended orgasm, which involves clitoral stimulation (always the top of the list!), penetration and a little back door play if you're game. Having that kind of triple play can lead to the kind of mind-boggling, earth-shattering, 'I can't operate heavy machinery' kind of orgasm that will leave any girl feeling like she can conquer the world, which, with the power of orgasm, she can!"

"Knowledge is power," as the old Schoolhouse Rock adage goes. You can stumble upon an orgasm, sure. But, in general, amazing, consistent, ultimate orgasms come from knowing what works and being in the moment and advocating for your orgasm. No matter how much your partner adores you or is committed to your orgasm, ultimately you are the only one who can and should be responsible for your orgasm.

By the same token, when it comes to information, sometimes too much can be a bad thing. Let me assure you -- you're not doing it wrong. There aren't just "Ten Perfect Positions" or "Eight Ways to Orgasm" or whatever the magazines tell you. What your body desires is right, is good, is perfect, and anyone who tells you otherwise is a lousy partner. Period.

"Women have to start reveling in their bodies and in pleasure. We own both. We have a right to both," said Block. "Orgasm is something we're programmed for. It's time for started taking advantage of that instead of being ashamed of it. There's no point in engaging in sex if it's not about the pleasure of all of those involved. Sex should be pleasure oriented. Not goal oriented for sure. You don't have to orgasm if you truly don't want to. But for most of us, sex leads to orgasm. That's the point, so why settle for less? Why partner with someone who is committed to their orgasm and not yours? So, barring very specific circumstance, my motto is: No O. No go."

Orgasm isn't easy. It isn't automatic. It isn't something some people are good at and some people are bad it. It's like everything else. You have to practice. You have to commit. You have to focus. And you have to put in the time. You'll get better at and it will come easier. And it'll be worth it. And, with any luck, it'll change the world too.

There's no judgment. No right or wrong way. No bad orgasms.

"All orgasms are good orgasms," said Block. "But, for me, I am always shooting for the ultimate. My personal orgasm best. The good news is, when that's not what I have, I still have nothing to complain about. Pleasure is good. I'm just advocating maximizing it!"
