'RuPaul's Drag Race' Season 7 - Interview with Mrs. Kasha Davis
Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 2 MIN.
In week five of Season 7, the "gurls" were paired up in teams of two and they had to create paper versions of classic celebrity outfits. The winners were Katya and Mrs. Kasha Davis, who did the iconic Bjork dress (Katya) and Mrs. Kasha was Joan Rivers on the red carpet. For the main challenge, they remained in the same pairs and had to be presenters and were also nominees at the 1st annual DESPY Awards.
For winning the mini-challenge, Mrs. Kasha and Katya were the hosts. The teams had to have banter, take jabs at fellow nominees, and come up with acceptance speeches (if they won). The winners were Pearl and Max. The bottom two were Mrs. Kasha Davis and Kandy Ho, and Mrs. Davis, who I was not ready to see go yet, sashayed away.
At what age did drag become an interest and how did you pick your name?
At age zero, and my name came from my first pet and the first street I lived on.
How many times did you apply to be on "RPDR," and how did it feel when you found out you were chosen?
I applied all seven seasons, and it was redemption for me when I was finally chosen.
Is there an additional pressure now that RuPaul has been on for six seasons?
I think there should be pressure to perform no matter what season it is. In my opinion performing is what it's all about, especially if you want to make a career out of drag.
Tell me about your "RuPaul's Drag Race" experience.
It was a dream come true. It was a wonderful ride, and I hope everyone continues to watch. It was such a fun journey.
As a comedy queen with a distinct character, what did we not get to see from you?
I was very fortunate to be able to show my Joan Rivers, but I wish I could have shown more acting such as my impersonations of Liza Minnelli and Judy Garland.
Have you ever done Joanne Worley? I think you would kill as her.
I am Joanne Worley. I adore her!
Who do you want to win?
I am the biggest fan of Ginger Minj, because she is everything: Beautiful, talented and she is playing the game.
Tell me about the man behind Mrs. Kasha Davis.
Ed is a very blessed and sensitive individual who is married to his husband Steven for 12 years. The creative part of MKD is a bigger part of Ed than I thought it was.
Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you.
That I want to learn to sew.
What's ahead for Mrs. Kasha Davis?
Oh my gosh, so much. My single "Cocktail" was released today (March 31) on iTunes and Amazon. My one-woman show, "There is Always Time for a Cocktail," is premiering in New York City at the Laurie Beechman Theater on April 21, and also plays May 12 and 26, and hopefully touring all over.
