'Walking Dead' Star Says He Would 'Rock' Playing Daryl Gay

Since "The Walking Dead" became one of the biggest, if not the biggest, TV show in the country, viewers of zombie horror AMC hit have speculated that one of the fans' favorite characters, the crossbow-wielding Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus, is gay. Although the often-sensitive Daryl has never shown his attraction for other men, that hasn't stopped Reedus from saying he'd be happy to play gay.

The 46-year-old actor recently stopped by "Conan" to talk about "TWD" and his character, which is unique from others on the show as Daryl is original to the show and does not appear in "TWD" comics.

"There's lots of speculation about Daryl's sexuality," host Conan O'Brien said. "What's your take on that - just because of some comments the producer made that got people talking."

Reedus explains that there is a gay character in the comic books named Jesus and an interviewer recently asked "TWD" creator Robert Kirkman if the show is "cross-referencing" Daryl and Jesus and if Daryl is gay.

Reedus said Kirman said, "I don't know, we've talked about it." But Reedus sounds like he is gung-ho to play gay.

"Hell yeah, let's do it," he said.

Reedus explained the reactions to Daryl's sexuality when he went to "TWD" conventions, saying that younger kids said they didn't care while older men in their 40s seemed a little hesitant about Daryl being gay. Reedus said that most women, on the other hand, said, "You better not be!"

"To tell you the truth," Reedus continued, "If that's the story they gave me, I would rock that story. I'm not afraid."

As USA Today points out, Kirkman said in the past that Daryl is in fact straight, however.

Perhaps some fans couldn't handle Daryl being gay as "TWD" recently introduced a gay character and viewers flipped out over a same-sex kiss. A number of fans took to social media to voice their disapproval, having no problem seeing zombies attack people but taking issue with two men locking lips.
