Joan Rivers' Penthouse Hits the Market for $28M

The Corcoran Group, purveyors of luxury Gotham real estate has listed late comedienne Joan Rivers' penthouse on Manhattan's Upper East Side for $28 million.
"Originally built at the turn of the century as one of the opulent mansions of the Gilded Age," according to Corcoran, Rivers' sprawling 5,100 square foot 11-room triplex apartment situated a stone's throw from Central Park, features 4 bedrooms, a library, ballroom and adjoining music room with staggering 23 foot ceilings.
The apartment built in 1903 for Gilded Age millionaires Alice and John S. Drexel includes two terraces, two kitchens, four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms and five fireplaces. A separate but contiguous two-bedroom, two-bath guest quarters has its own large living room with a fireplace and an eat-in kitchen.
Listed at $28 million, the monthly maintenance, common charges and taxes on Rivers' former digs run roughly $25K.
Featured in the 2010 documentary "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work," the apartment was known to host numerous lavish dinners thrown by the legendary late comedienne.
Rivers, the beloved comedian and long-time supporter of numerous charities including Gods Love We Deliver, died at 81 in September following complications from throat surgery.
