A man was punched unconscious during a Pride event in Brighton, England, on Saturday, Gay Star News reports.
According to the news site, a group of "homophobic and racist thugs" shouted at the victim and two others during the event at Preston Park. The victims, two men and one woman, were sitting on the grass when two other men came near them and started to urinate.
The group asked the men to use the bathroom but it apparently only angered the attackers, who became aggressive, resulting in a fight to break out.
Gay Star News reports one of the victims, a 44-year-old man, was punched in the face and knocked out. The other two victims chased the suspects but were also attacked.
The trio was treated at the scene by St. John Ambulance staff. They suffered cuts and bruises.
"The two suspects are described as being white men in their 20s or 30s with Irish accents," Detective constable Chris Bishop said, according to Gay Star News. "One of them was topless and had tattoos on his body and the other was wearing a blue vest top."
"This type of behavior is completely unacceptable," he added.
Besides the incident, BBC reports thousands of people came out to celebrate Pride in Brighton. The BBC writes: "The Brighton Pride parade received loud claps and cheers as it made its way from the seafront through the city centre towards Preston Park, where a party was being held into the evening."
