A Utah boy was berated and bullied by a substitute teacher after sharing with his class that he was thankful to have been adopted by his two dads, reported KUTV.com.

Appearing on "CBS This Morning" with his two dads — former "Dancing with the Stars" professional choreographer Louis van Amstel and husband Joshua Lancaster — 11-year-old Daniel van Amstel spoke out about the incident.

"(The substitute teacher) first said, 'Why would you BE happy to be adopted by them?' And that's when one of the three kids, ones in my class, they stuck up for me and said let's stop," Daniel remembers. "But she kept going. And she said, 'Are you going to be gay?'"

The teacher then reportedly launched into a rant and lectured the 30 children about her views on homosexuality. After three of his Deerfield Elementary School classmates left to get the principal, the teacher was reportedly escorted out.

"Honestly, I went red. I didn't like what she said," said Daniel. "I was very mad. Because it isn't — it's not right — nice to insult other families, even if you don't like them. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it."

After an investigation, the substitute teacher was fired by Alpine School District for the homophobic comments.

"I am thankful for my dad and dad, my family, my dogs and everybody that I live with now," said Daniel, who was officially adopted Thursday.
