Following sexual misconduct accusations made against him, Jeffrey Tambor released a statement last month, suggesting he was leaving "Transparent," the Amazon series where he stars as transgender woman Maura Pfefferman. But in a new New York Times piece published Wednesday, it looks like Tambor may still be part of the critically beloved drama.

In what The Associated Press called an "ambiguous statement... that heavily implies, though doesn't confirm, an imminent departure" from the show, Tambor said in November a "politicized atmosphere" has afflicted the set and that this is "no longer the job I signed up for four years ago."

In the New York Times piece, the actor's publicist Allan Mayer commented on Tambor's role in the future of "Transparent," saying he has no plans to quit.

"What he said was that given the toxic atmosphere and the politicization on the set, it's very hard for him to see how he can possibly return," Mayer said. "But no final decision for next year has been made, either by Jeffrey or by Amazon."

"Transparent" showrunner Jill Soloway said they take the accusations against Tambor seriously but cannot comment on the situation because of Amazon's ongoing investigation into the matter. The New York Times reports that because of the investigation, "Transparent" is currently "suspended in an agonizing limbo."

Tambor was thrown into the spotlight last month when his former assistant Van Barnes accused him of sexual misconduct. Later, "Transparent" cast member Trace Lysette and makeup artist Tamara Delbridge also accused the 73-year-old actor of sexual misconduct.

"Transparent" is heading into its fifth season. Tambor has won two Emmy Awards for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Maura Pfefferman.
